Representative Jared Moskowitz has rejected Senator Rick Scott's characterization of him as being "scared to death" of the socialist wing of the Democratic Party and taking marching orders from streamer Hasan Piker. Scott had claimed that whoever won the Democratic primary in Moskowitz's district would ultimately follow Piker's directives.
"Rick doesn't know what he's talking about there," Moskowitz stated Thursday on "Fox & Friends." "Nobody in my district believes that I'm a Hasan Piker guy. Hasan would want nothing to do with me. I want nothing to do with Hasan, so, at the end of the day, Rick just doesn't know what he's talking about."
Scott made the remarks during a FOX Business appearance, suggesting that Democrats are fearful of the progressive wing. Moskowitz, who has been described as a more centrist Democrat and is outspoken in his support of Israel and critical of many progressive figures, including Piker, won his primary against a challenger backed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
Following his primary victory, Moskowitz posted on X, sending what he called mocking "condolences" to Piker. Piker responded on the platform, criticizing Moskowitz's focus and his stance on Israel.
Moskowitz has publicly opposed the DSA's agenda and candidates, labeling them "anti-American at their core" and urging Democratic leadership to publicly denounce the DSA's platform. However, he also acknowledged what he sees as a significant issue for mainstream Democrats.
"There is a economic populist movement to the DSA, and we've got to recognize that we've got to talk about how people are struggling to afford the American way of life," Moskowitz said.
