Country music singer Morgan Wallen displayed his Christian faith during a recent concert by wearing a black leg cast inscribed with the Bible verse Joshua 2:21.
The 33-year-old artist performed at Clemson University’s Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina, with the Scripture reference written in white on his cast.
Joshua 2:21 is part of the Old Testament narrative of Rahab, who hid two Israelite spies. She secured their promise to spare her family by tying a scarlet cord in her window, a symbol traditionally interpreted in Christian theology as representing faith, redemption, and divine protection, and foreshadowing Christ's sacrifice.
Wallen, who grew up singing in church as the son of a Southern Baptist pastor, has previously spoken about incorporating biblical themes into his music. In a 2025 Spotify interview, he stated that he is always open to including hints of his Christian faith in his songs. His 2022 single "Don't Think Jesus" was released on Good Friday, and other songs such as "I Wrote the Book," "Devil Don't Know," "In the Bible," "Thought You Should Know," and "Genesis" also feature biblical language or imagery.
Comedian Theo Vonn mentioned in a 2025 podcast episode that he participates in a Bible study with Wallen, describing the singer as "an inspiring guy" and "authentic."
Following Hurricane Helene's devastation in Appalachia in 2024, Wallen wrote Psalm 40:2 on the exposed studs of a storm-damaged home, visited flood victims in his native East Tennessee, organized a food drive, and donated $500,000 to relief efforts.
After the November 2018 shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill, Wallen expressed his reliance on faith to cope with tragedy, telling Taste of Country that he believes many people have neglected God and that society could benefit from adhering to principles like the Ten Commandments. He stated his belief in God's reality and control, suggesting that countries turning away from faith have historically faced negative outcomes.
