Over 250 residents in the former mining village of Coalsnaughton have been displaced from their homes since ground movement was detected in May. An eight-week investigation by the MRA confirmed that the issue, which caused cracks in roads, paths, and houses, is linked to historical mining operations.
Alan Cameron, chairman of the Coalsnaughton Evacuees Residents Group, stated that 46 properties on Benbuck View and Dunmoss View, the most severely affected streets, have been deemed beyond repair. An additional 14 properties are expected to sustain further damage from future ground movement.
The ground movement is considered less severe on Langour and Nechtan Drive, where officials believe repairs will be feasible. The displaced residents consist of both private homeowners and tenants of the Kingdom Housing Association.
