Montana Teen Drowns After Saving Sister from River
A 13-year-old boy lost his life in the Clarks Fork River after ensuring his sister's safety during a tubing incident.
Ephraim Dayley, a 13-year-old boy from Montana, drowned in the Clarks Fork River on Wednesday after saving his sister from the water during a tubing outing. His body was recovered on Thursday afternoon.
According to Carbon County Sheriff Josh McQuillam, Dayley and his sister encountered trouble while tubing. The sister fell off or was attempting to get off the tube and struggled in the water. Dayley managed to save her, but she was unable to help him get back on. She made it to shore, but he did not.
Search-and-rescue divers, assisted by the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office with a drone and helicopter, scoured a section of the river between 6 to 10 feet deep where Dayley went under. Authorities located Dayley's body underwater using specialized equipment and pronounced him deceased on shore.
Dayley, one of nine siblings, was remembered by his community as an "amazing hero." A GoFundMe page established to assist his family noted his helpful nature and ability to bring joy to others.
