Alan Smith, 44, the gunman responsible for a massacre that left eight relatives dead in Montana, has been identified, and a close friend of one of his victims has revealed details of his behavior leading up to the tragedy. Smith died by suicide after the killings.

Kelsey Granger, the best friend of Smith's slain sister, Megan Ireland-Ghekiere, told The Post that Smith had been verbally abusive towards Ireland-Ghekiere and her children. Granger, who knew Smith for years, stated that he had not exhibited physical violence. According to Granger, Smith left the family home voluntarily around mid-July, weeks before the incident.

"He had no job and no money," Granger said of Smith's situation when he left. "We didn’t know where he was, but we were not concerned." Granger added that Ireland-Ghekiere’s parents did not perceive Smith as violent.

Smith murdered eight people at a home in Billings before setting the house on fire and taking his own life. The full details of the timeline and Smith's motives remain under investigation.
