Montana Bar Plans Watch Party for Livestreamed Execution of Fort Hood Shooter
Mike's Alcan Bar & Grill in Frenchtown, Montana, announced it will host a viewing event for the December 3 execution of Nidal Malik Hasan.
A bar in Frenchtown, Montana, has announced plans to host a watch party for the livestreamed execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist convicted of the 2009 Fort Hood mass shooting. Mike's Alcan Bar & Grill extended an invitation to patrons to gather on December 3 to watch Hasan, 56, be executed by firing squad.
Mike Shamoon, owner of the bar and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, stated on social media that the establishment will open its doors at 11 a.m. local time on the day of the execution, with the livestream viewing scheduled for 1 p.m.
Hasan, who was paralyzed from the waist down after being shot during the attack, killed 13 people and wounded 32 others on November 5, 2009, at the Fort Hood military base in Texas. He was found guilty of the massacre and sentenced to death.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced that Hasan's execution would be livestreamed to the public, a decision that has not occurred in the United States in nearly a century. Hegseth has reportedly approved the execution by firing squad, referring to it as "Justice" on social media. The U.S. military has not carried out an execution in 65 years, with the last one occurring in April 1961. Hasan claimed he carried out the attack due to anger over being deployed to Afghanistan and a desire to protect Islamic and Taliban leaders.
President Donald Trump has reportedly approved the public execution, though a final determination is still pending. According to an article in Army Lawyer magazine, Hasan could potentially delay the execution for years by filing a habeas corpus appeal in federal court.
The victims of the Fort Hood shooting included Michael Cahill, 32; Librado Caraveo, 52; Justin DeCrow, 32; John Gaffaney, 56; Fredrick Greene, 29; Jason Hunt, 22; Amy Krueger, 29; Aaron Nemelka, 19; Michael Pearson, 22; Russell Gilbert Seagar, 51; Francheska Velez, 21; Juanita Warman, 55; and Kham Xiong, 23.
