Venerable Dhammaloka, a senior Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka, has identified Herefordshire as a prime location in the UK for individuals seeking spiritual development. Dhammaloka stated that the county possesses the right "state of balance" and offers the ideal environment, including its nature and air quality, for people to achieve happiness.
Dhammaloka, who had not previously visited Herefordshire, made this assessment when selecting the region for his mentee, Ishara De Silva, to establish a wellness center. De Silva had founded Plantation Villa in Sri Lanka, and with Dhammaloka's guidance, a site was established in Kings Caple, Herefordshire, in 2022. The center appears to incorporate principles of Ayurveda, an ancient South Asian system of medicine and healing developed over thousands of years.
