Monaco Royals Attend Peace Event in France with Macron and Pope

Princess Charlene of Monaco, Prince Albert II, French President Emmanuel Macron, and First Lady Brigitte Macron gathered for a peace and unity event in Metz, France. The meeting, held near the German border, was part of Pope Leo XIV's four-day visit to France.

During the event, titled 'At the Roots of Europe for Peace and Unity,' Pope Leo XIV delivered an address calling for a new stage in contemporary European history. He urged younger Europeans to reject violence and oppression, encouraging political engagement for the good of their communities. The Pope also emphasized drawing from Europe's Christian roots to overcome the "desire for domination" driving current conflicts and advocated for yielding positions for the greater good of peace.

Princess Charlene exercised her 'privilège du blanc,' a tradition allowing select Catholic queens and princesses to wear white when meeting the Pope. She appeared in a white suit ensemble, complemented by a statement collar and a matching handbag with gold detailing. This rare privilege is typically reserved for significant occasions such as private audiences, canonizations, beatifications, and special masses. In contrast, Brigitte Macron adhered to the standard papal audience protocol, wearing a black dress.

The event was held in Metz, the hometown of Robert Schuman, considered a founding father of the European Union, signifying the aim to strengthen ties between European nations. Heads of state and European institutions were invited to attend the conference.

This meeting follows previous interactions between the Monaco royals and the Macrons, including a state dinner hosted by the Prince and Princess for the French leaders in June. Earlier in the year, Princess Charlene and her daughter, Princess Gabriella, also utilized the 'privilège du blanc' during Pope Leo XIV's visit to Monaco.
