Moms for Liberty Deploys AI to Monitor School Board Agendas Nationwide
The 'M4L AWARE' system aims to provide parents with advance notice of controversial policies before votes.
Moms for Liberty has launched an artificial intelligence tool designed to scan school board agendas across more than 13,000 school districts nationwide. The system, named M4L AWARE (Agenda Watch, Alert, Response, and Engage), aims to provide parents with advance warning about controversial policies before they are voted on by local officials.
According to the parental rights organization, the AI system scans school board agendas every 12 hours, flagging issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), gender policies, curriculum changes, and Title IX. When the system identifies a high-priority item, it generates a plain-language summary and an alert for local Moms for Liberty chapters. These alerts are intended to help parents mobilize, sign up for public comment, and scrutinize proposals within approximately 72 hours before board members cast their votes.
Tina Descovich, co-founder and CEO of Moms for Liberty, stated that the new tool is intended to empower parents by allowing them to quickly identify concerning policies that might otherwise be buried deep within school board agendas. She noted that the process of sifting through thousands of pages of agendas weekly is time-consuming and that school districts often rely on this to their advantage.
"Moms for Liberty is harnessing AI to increase the oversight of school boards across the nation, empowering parents like never before," Descovich said. "For five years, we’ve asked parents to show up at school board meetings, and they have. The problem is that it’s incredibly time-consuming to sift through thousands of pages in agendas each week, and school districts count on that."
The announcement of M4L AWARE follows a report from the Justice Department's Weaponization Working Group. This report detailed that the FBI had opened 25 "Guardian assessments" involving parents after then-Attorney General Merrick Garland's October 2021 memorandum addressing threats against school officials. One specific instance mentioned in the report involved an FBI investigation into a mother based on a tip that noted she was a gun owner and belonged to a "right-wing mom's group," identified in a separate DOJ-Education Department release as Moms for Liberty. The Working Group concluded that Garland's memo was a product of pressure from the White House and that it wrongly weaponized the Justice Department against parents.
