A creative fitness approach that turns a child's frequent use of the word "Mom" into a rigorous lower-body workout has gained viral attention online.

Jess Sharp, a 34-year-old mother from upstate New York, documented her experiment on TikTok, where she committed to performing a squat every time she heard "Mom." Her four-year-old daughter, Amelia, proved to be an ample trainer, leading to a significant number of repetitions throughout the day.

Sharp explained in a video that she initially anticipated a high count but did not fully grasp the physical toll of performing over 200 squats in a single day. The challenge resulted in considerable soreness that lasted for two days, impacting her ability to move around her home, particularly on the stairs.

The online response to Sharp's fitness hack was largely one of amusement and admiration, with many users commenting on the intensity of the workout. Some predicted rapid physical changes, with one user humorously suggesting she would become "quadzilla" within a week, while others expressed that the sheer volume of squats would be too demanding.

This innovative exercise strategy emerged amidst findings that many mothers with young children struggle to meet recommended physical activity guidelines. A 2022 study indicated that fewer than half of mothers with young children adhere to general exercise recommendations, averaging only about 18 to 19 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous activity daily.

While Sharp has not repeated the exact squat challenge, it has inspired her to explore other variations, such as a "burpee question challenge." She views these activities as "workout snacks" – brief bursts of exercise that can be easily integrated into a busy schedule, making fitness more accessible for parents.

The challenge also proved to be financially rewarding. In a separate instance, Sharp had her husband pay her $1 for every "Mom" she heard over a day, a variation that resulted in 405 repetitions and a notable financial gain.
