Mom Defends Husband After Viral Giants Game Clip Sparks Backlash

A woman whose husband was criticized after a viral video showed her carrying a baby and food at a San Francisco Giants game has defended him, stating that the public perception was skewed by a broadcast narrative.

Erika, the wife featured in the clip, explained in a Substack post that while she and her husband, Ramses, initially found the broadcast amusing, the online reaction quickly turned negative. The video, which gained significant traction, showed Erika managing a baby strapped to her chest while holding food, with her husband seated nearby.

Announcers on NBC Sports Bay Area, Kruk and Kuip, playfully dubbed Erika "mom of the year" during the broadcast. However, Erika noted that this commentary, intended as lighthearted, was misinterpreted by viewers as a reflection of an unequal relationship.

"Anyone who knows our family knows how ridiculous it is to suggest that Ramses never helps with our kids," she wrote, addressing the widespread assumption that her husband was unsupportive. She clarified that she had offered to get food while returning from the restroom and that Ramses had offered to hold the baby, an offer she declined.

Erika also revealed that the game held particular significance for her husband. It was an occasion for him to honor a recently deceased friend. "My husband will never admit it, but I know he’s been grieving him deeply," she stated. "That evening, I chose to take care of him. A camera catching me doing something for my husband doesn’t show all the times he has done something for me."

The viral nature of the clip also brought unwanted attention and harassment to the family. Erika reported that some individuals had resorted to insulting Ramses, suggesting he was a "deadbeat," and even issuing death threats. She expressed concern for her children potentially encountering such negative comments about their father in the future.

Addressing the broadcasters directly, Erika conveyed that while she believes no harm was intended, their jokes contributed to the misinterpretation. "What was a few moments of amusement on your broadcast became days of real pain for our family," she wrote. "I wish you had known what that night meant to him before making him the punchline."
