A Florida mother arrested for leaving her four children unsupervised for nearly a week while she traveled to Las Vegas for a work trip had recently filed for divorce from her husband, citing alleged abuse, according to court documents.

Irene Miller, 50, was arrested on child endangerment charges after her youngest child, a 9-year-old boy, was injured by a dumbbell while she was away. The incident prompted a 911 call from one of the children.

Just last month, on September 17, Miller filed a petition to end her 15-year marriage with Mark Miller, 53, in Osceola County court. Less than a month prior, Mark Miller had been charged with criminal battery and received a restraining order after allegedly striking Irene Miller's hand as she held her phone outside their children's school, according to a police report.

The restraining order prohibited Mark Miller from coming within 500 feet of Irene Miller and stipulated that a court hearing was needed to determine his contact with their four children, who are aged 9, 11, 12, and 14.

Deputies responded to the 911 call at the family's home in Kissimmee, Florida, and found the children without adult supervision. The injured 9-year-old was taken to a hospital, treated, and released, authorities reported.

Investigators contacted Irene Miller, who stated she had left for her work trip to Las Vegas the previous Sunday and planned to return five days later. Miller, a professional photographer, appeared to be working with a client in Las Vegas, reportedly connected to the real estate brokerage franchise network Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, based on her social media activity.

She told deputies that a babysitter was scheduled to care for the children before and after school but was not staying overnight. Mark Miller was contacted by authorities and took custody of all four children at his home.
