Molly Ringwald marked her daughter Mathilda's 23rd birthday on Thursday with a tribute shared on Instagram. The actress posted photos of her eldest child, including a childhood image and a more recent snapshot.
Ringwald, 58, captioned the post, 'Happy birthday my beautiful firstborn. I love you so much!!' The images prompted birthday wishes from fans in the comments section.
Mathilda, whose father is author Panio Gianopoulos, is the elder of Ringwald's two children with Gianopoulos. They also have 17-year-old fraternal twins, Adele and Roman.
Mathilda has followed in her mother's footsteps into acting. She made her screen debut in the 2015 film Jem and the Holograms and later appeared in the 2024 movie The Idea of You, where she played Georgia, a supporting role.
Beyond acting, Mathilda has also pursued modeling, walking the runway for J. Crew during New York Fashion Week in 2017.
Ringwald shared in a 2024 interview with The Times that Mathilda was conceived at the iconic New York nightclub Studio 54, where Ringwald was performing in the musical Cabaret. Ringwald, who was 36 when Mathilda was born, has spoken about her desire to have children.
Ringwald also offered dating advice to her daughter, telling E! News in August, 'The dating advice I always give her is just to be herself, and also to respect yourself and not to do anything she doesn't want to do.' Mathilda described her mother's advice as strict, to which Ringwald humorously added, 'No second chances, don't put up with all that.'
