The Godshill Model Village on the Isle of Wight has reinstated a topless figure, known as Erica, after a significant public outcry followed its temporary removal. Village directors had initially decided to remove the figure from its placement on the football pitch, citing concerns that her exposed breasts caused offense.
However, following a public referendum, 98% of voters chose to keep Erica. The figure will now be relocated to various secret spots throughout the village's gardens, with a donation pot nearby to raise funds for a local breast cancer charity. This initiative aims to encourage visitors to search for Erica while supporting the cause.
Erica was originally positioned on the football pitch to evoke the era of football streaking in the 1970s and 1980s. While some visitors found the figure amusing, a small number of complaints were received, leading to the initial decision for removal.
A spokeswoman for the village stated that Erica's return will help raise awareness and funds for a breast cancer charity, with her new placement encouraging engagement and donations.
