Model Exposes Disturbing Hygiene Lapses in Fashion Industry
A professional model has detailed unsanitary practices, including shared makeup brushes and unwashed undergarments, encountered during her career.
A professional model has detailed numerous hygiene breaches within the fashion industry, revealing practices that have raised significant concerns among industry professionals and the public.
Model Yente Lisa Reitsma shared her experiences via TikTok, highlighting instances of makeup artists reusing brushes on multiple models without proper cleaning, especially backstage at major fashion shows. "Number one, makeup artists using the same brush not on just one other model, on the hundreds and thousands of models backstage at a show," Reitsma stated in a video that has garnered millions of views.
Reitsma also described alarming practices related to undergarments during casting calls for lingerie and bikini shoots. She explained that while models sometimes get to keep the worn items, in other cases, shared sanitary padding is used, which she considers a lesser but still concerning compromise. The most shocking revelation involved a casting in Milan where models were expected to wear the same thong. "Hundreds of models have been wearing the exact same one single thong - and you could see it," Reitsma recounted, expressing her refusal to participate in such situations and opting to wear her own underwear for the casting.
Further compounding these concerns, Reitsma touched upon the state of model apartments, particularly those for male models, describing them as "disgusting" with widespread hair and mold. She noted a nonchalant attitude towards the cleanliness of these living spaces.
Reitsma, who has worked with brands such as Toni&Guy, DSQUARED2, and Superdry, has built a notable modeling portfolio. Her candid account aims to shed light on the less glamorous realities behind the scenes in the high-profile fashion world.
