Mod Sun Honors Ex-Girlfriend Sahara Ray Following Her Death

American musician Mod Sun has paid tribute to his former girlfriend, Australian model Sahara Ray, following her death at the age of 34. Ray died on October 18 in a Los Angeles hospital, reportedly from a drug overdose.

In an emotional Instagram post shared on Wednesday, Mod Sun described Ray as "a true love of mine" and reflected on their past relationship. "She was my inspiration before, during, + long after we dated. She was a true love of mine," he wrote.

Mod Sun also shared a farewell message, stating, "Life will never be the same without your energy. I love you Hara…I always have + I always will. Save a spot for me in the forest, angel." He remembered her creativity, laugh, and ability to energize any room she entered, calling her "pure magic."

He recalled their shared birthday and a sense of a shared soul, noting their travels together to places like Hawaii, Big Sur, and Minnesota, during which he felt a sense of freedom. Mod Sun celebrated her "ETERNAL IT GIRL" status, her distinctive style, love of nature, and unique perspective on the world.

Ray, a swimwear designer and model, had welcomed her first child, a daughter named Snow, in January. Her mother, Gretchen Bach, described her as an "incredibly passionate and kind young woman who loved her family, fashion, her daughter Snow, and surfing." Friends and communities have expressed their love and support.

News of Ray's death comes after she had faced recent health challenges. In 2024, she revealed a diagnosis of Guillain-Barré syndrome following a car accident, which left her partially paralyzed. The family also recently mourned the death of Ray's cousin, Sienna Ray, who died in July at age 26.

An official cause of death has not yet been confirmed. A source close to Ray indicated she had suffered a fentanyl overdose two days prior to her death and was placed on life support, with her relatives making the decision to remove her from life support on Sunday afternoon.
