MobLand Season 2 Episode 7 Recap: The Gambler

The latest episode of "MobLand," Season 2, Episode 7, titled "The Gambler," delivers a high-stakes episode as Harry confronts Frankie Cooper in a dangerous game of Russian roulette, and the Harrigan family grapples with escalating internal divisions.

Following a brutal attack on their property and loved ones, Conrad rallies the Harrigan family. He tasks Harry and Paul with investigating those loyal to them, while Kevin and Harry will assess the situation. The plan aims to solidify their control by either rewarding loyalty or punishing betrayal.

However, the family's unity is fractured. Maeve continues to manipulate the younger generation, testing Eddie and suggesting Gina consider a fake suicide attempt to pressure Harry. Seraphina, believing Conrad's leadership is failing, secretly plots a new direction, "Harrigan 2.0," with her stepfather Charlton, impressing Bella who shares doubts about Conrad.

Meanwhile, Bella explains her estrangement from Kevin, stemming from their realization that confronting past abusers did not resolve their present issues. The episode also reveals the disappearance of Jan, and Harry discovers the body of her former lover, Donny, in his apartment.

As the Harrigan factions consolidate their power, Frankie Cooper, spurred by Kat McAllister, accelerates his plans against them. McAllister's significant influence, backed by funds from international criminals and the Republican Party, is noted.

Harry engineers a plan to capture Paul, using a stripper named Sicily, with whom Paul had a past connection. The goal is to leverage Paul as bait to ensnare high-ranking members of the Harrigan organization. Despite recognizing the trap, Harry proceeds to a meeting with Frankie, alone, at a riverside casino.

In a tense standoff, Harry gambles his life on Frankie's paternal instincts, revealing that Frankie's son is imprisoned in Newgate Prison. Frankie, initially playing a game of Russian roulette, ultimately relents after Harry gains the upper hand, sparing both himself and Paul. Harry then uses this leverage to warn Frankie's son of an impending assault.

The episode highlights the blend of brutal gangster dealings, including a graphic scene involving a deep fryer, with moments of visual artistry, such as the casino's lighting and character's attire. The narrative leaves viewers questioning Harry's true motivations and the precariousness of his gambit, underscoring "MobLand's" reputation for intelligent and dark storytelling.
