Dustin Lampros, a professional mixed martial arts fighter, has dedicated himself to exposing suspected child predators since 2022, operating under the social media moniker '561 Predator Catcher.' Lampros, who also goes by 'Scrappy' in the fighting world, began his mission after a friend in cybersecurity demonstrated the ease with which online predators could target children.

His personal motivation stems from two individuals close to him who were victims of child abuse, including a childhood friend who was sexually assaulted by a school principal. This history, coupled with a recommitment to his faith, led Lampros to believe he had a calling to intervene.

Lampros employs a strategy of coordinating with decoys who pose as minors online. Once a potential predator arranges an in-person meeting and discusses plans for sexual activity, Lampros prepares to confront them. He waits at the agreed-upon location, calls the police, and then approaches the suspect. He records these encounters using Meta glasses, questioning the individuals about their intentions and planned activities. Lampros stated that he has become adept at eliciting confessions on camera, often presenting screenshots of online conversations as evidence when police arrive.

He credits his MMA training for enabling him to remain calm and composed during these confrontations, emphasizing that any physical action could jeopardize the legal case. Lampros trains at the MMA Science Academy in Sunrise, Florida, where his coaches and teammates support his mission.

Since 2022, Lampros estimates he has completed approximately 100 such encounters, with about 10 resulting in convictions. He notes that these cases can take years to move through the legal system. While his methods have evolved, he continues to coax suspects into admitting details on video for police.

Lampros acknowledges that his activities have drawn criticism, with some attorneys accusing him of vigilantism and claiming he is motivated by online attention. He has also faced dangerous situations, including one instance where a suspect pulled a gun and another where a boxcutter was brandished. Despite these risks, Lampros maintains that he is committed to the long-term fight against child predators.

Before dedicating himself to this work, Lampros was focused on his MMA career, holding a 7-0 record and aspiring to fight in the UFC. However, he felt a sense of emptiness and sought a greater purpose. He believes his current mission is divinely guided and that focusing on 'God's plan' has opened doors and brought more fulfillment to his life.
