Four Los Angeles Angels players were traded on Aug. 3, MLB trade deadline day, while playing golf at Mike Trout's private club, Trout National, in Vineland, New Jersey. The team was on the East Coast for games, and the scheduled off day presented an opportunity for some players to visit the newly opened club.
The golf outing, intended as a team-bonding event, became a site of unexpected news for several Angels players. Relievers Ryan Zeferjahn and Brent Suter, along with outfielder Jo Adell, were informed of their trades during their rounds. Reliever Kirby Yates learned of his trade to the Pittsburgh Pirates as he was leaving the course.
Suter, in his first season with the Angels, told Fox News Digital that his immediate reaction upon receiving the trade call was to ask if he could finish his round. He was able to complete his game before heading to his new organization.
Zeferjahn, however, found out he was traded to the Chicago Cubs during a rain delay with six holes remaining in his round. The disruption occurred during an event that was meant to be a relaxed break from the baseball season.
Trout National, a $100 million private club designed by Tiger Woods, is located in Trout's hometown. The club is described as highly exclusive, with only a limited number of golfers permitted on the property.
