Mitchell Robinson Mocks Fan for Mistaking His Team After Celtics' Win Over Knicks
The former Knicks center, now with the Celtics, shared an Instagram video calling out a fan who believed he still played for New York.
Mitchell Robinson, now with the Boston Celtics, posted a video on Instagram Stories mocking a fan who approached him after Boston's victory over his former team, the New York Knicks. The fan, apparently unaware of Robinson's free agency move, reportedly believed he still played for the Knicks.
"Hey, tell me why a fan, bro, said that we lost tonight?" Robinson said in the video, wearing a pink hoodie and appearing to be in a car. "I think he still think I play for the Knicks, and I’m like, ‘You dumb motherf–ker. He a fake fan, bro.'"
Robinson was playing in his first game against the Knicks since signing a three-year, $47.4 million deal with the rival Celtics in free agency. The Celtics secured a 107-103 home win against New York, dropping the Knicks to an 0-2 start to the season.
During the game, Robinson contributed four points, four rebounds, and two assists in 22 minutes of play, with a minus-two rating. He was a key part of Boston's rebound after an opening day loss.
Robinson, who was the Knicks' longest-tenured player, helped the team win their first NBA championship in 53 years last season. Despite the move to a rival team, he stated he held no ill will towards his former employer, noting that they never formally offered him a new contract. "There wasn’t bad blood behind it. Fresh start," he said. He acknowledged that the move to Boston might not have been popular with Knicks fans, but expressed that he "like[s] to troll" and was happy with his decision.
Robinson received a standing ovation from the Boston crowd after a fourth-quarter block on Karl-Anthony Towns and a subsequent alley-oop that extended the Celtics' lead to 12 points.
He commented that playing against his former teammates felt familiar, stating, "Still NBA, so playing against them guys, so I know all they plays and stuff like that. Just a little battle."
