Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is scheduled to return to the Senate floor on Monday, marking his first appearance since being hospitalized in June following a fall.
McConnell, 81, has been absent from the Senate for several weeks after he was hospitalized for a fall that led to a concussion and a fractured rib. He was later moved to a rehabilitation facility.
"Today, I'll cast my first Senate vote since I took a bad fall back in June," McConnell said in a statement. "I’m really looking forward to being back on the Senate floor and seeing my colleagues."
In the interim, Senate Minority Whip John Thune of South Dakota has been leading Senate Republicans. McConnell's return is expected to bring renewed stability to the Republican leadership in the Senate.
