Emergency dispatch audio released from July 1, 2026, reveals that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 84, was found unconscious at his home on the day of his hospitalization last month. The audio, first reported by Punchbowl News and posted on X by independent journalist Desiree Townsend, details Advanced Life Support (ALS) units being dispatched shortly before 9 a.m. ET.

It remains unclear who placed the emergency call for assistance at McConnell's Capitol Hill residence, which he shares with his wife, Elaine Chao, 73. McConnell has been hospitalized since June 14, and the release of this audio intensifies scrutiny surrounding his health.

An official statement from a representative on the day of his hospitalization stated, "Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care." Days later, his office indicated he was "working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery," but would not be voting.

Republican Majority Leader John Thune told reporters recently that he had spoken with McConnell and that the senator is "dialed in" on Senate proceedings. McConnell has experienced several public health incidents in recent years. In February, he was hospitalized for approximately one week due to flu-like symptoms. Prior to that, he sustained injuries from multiple falls in 2023, at times requiring the use of a wheelchair. He also experienced brief episodes during public appearances where he appeared to freeze and be unable to speak for several seconds.

McConnell announced last year that he would step down from GOP leadership and will not seek reelection. He was voting in the Senate just ten days before his hospitalization.
