The trial of Lindsay Clancy, who pleaded not guilty to three murder charges in connection with the deaths of her children, concluded in a mistrial on Friday, September 4, 2026, after seven days of jury deliberations. The nearly six-week proceedings in Plymouth Superior Court in Plymouth, Massachusetts, placed a significant spotlight on the attorneys representing both the prosecution and the defense.

Lindsay Clancy was charged with murder for the deaths of her 5-year-old daughter Cora, 3-year-old son Dawson, and infant son Callan at their Duxbury home on January 24, 2023. Her defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, argued that Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the children's deaths and her own suicide attempt. The prosecution, led by Plymouth County Assistant District Attorneys Jennifer Sprague and Shanan Buckingham, contended that Clancy was criminally responsible for the killings.

All three attorneys are scheduled to appear in court on September 29 to determine the next steps in the case. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has not yet announced whether the prosecution will seek a retrial.

Kevin Reddington, Clancy's defense attorney, is in private practice in Brockton, Massachusetts. He graduated from Suffolk University Law School in 1975. Reddington's past clients have included Catherine Greig, the partner of gangster Whitey Bulger. Reddington stated he did not anticipate the trial receiving the level of public attention it did, nor the personal attention he received as Clancy's attorney. He mentioned that his son, Patrick Reddington, also an attorney, assisted him with the case.

Jennifer Sprague, a Second Assistant District Attorney at the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office since 2003, supervises homicide cases in the county, as well as firearm and narcotics cases. She graduated from New England Law Boston in 2003. Sprague delivered the closing arguments for the prosecution during the trial. According to Plymouth County DA Timothy Cruz, Sprague and her colleague Buckingham faced social media threats throughout the proceedings.

Shanan Buckingham, who leads the Family Protection Unit at the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office, has been with the office since 2011. She previously worked at a law firm specializing in civil rights litigation and criminal defense. Buckingham graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in 2011. District Attorney Cruz expressed his dismay at the online vilification of his prosecutors, stating that "Threats to them and their families, their addresses being posted, it's unfortunate that in today's society professionals are placed at risk for merely doing their jobs."
