Mistress Testifies in 'American Idol' Alum's Murder Trial
Ex-lover of Caleb Flynn cries while reading text message expressing desire to kill his wife.
Alleigha Botner, 24, the former mistress of "American Idol" contestant Caleb Flynn, sobbed in court Wednesday as she read a text message she had sent stating her desire to kill Flynn's wife. The message, read aloud during Flynn's murder trial, stated, "I want to kill her, Caleb."
Botner expressed remorse for the text, telling the court, "I just wish I didn’t say this." She also recalled Flynn's response to the message, "He said, ‘That makes two of us.’"
Flynn, 40, is accused of fatally shooting his wife, Ashley Flynn, in their Ohio home in February and then staging the scene to appear as a burglary. Prosecutors have presented evidence of Flynn's affair with Botner, whom he met while working as a music pastor at a church where she was an intern, as a motive for the killing.
Botner testified that she now harbors hatred for Flynn, believing him to be responsible for his wife's death. The trial continues to examine evidence, including extensive text message communications between Flynn and Botner, as prosecutors build their case.
