A Missouri nurse was found dead in her home on June 23, weeks after her husband, an anesthesiologist, admitted to violently attacking a woman, according to court records. Alexandra "Allie" Hummel, 36, was found unresponsive at her residence in New London.
The Ralls County Sheriff's Office is investigating her death but has released few details. Her husband, Dr. Andrew Hummel, has not been accused of any wrongdoing in connection with her death.
Court documents indicate that Dr. Hummel pleaded guilty in March 2026 to two counts of fourth-degree assault, both Class A misdemeanors. These charges stemmed from a July 2025 incident where he was arrested for allegedly strangling and striking a woman with whom he was in a romantic relationship.
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a St. Louis hotel following reports of screaming. According to a police report, Hummel was found with a bleeding cut on his hand, and blood was observed on the hotel room bed. The alleged victim, whose name was not released, was found in the hotel restroom with a swollen lip and stated that Hummel had repeatedly strangled her. A guest in an adjacent room reported hearing a woman scream "get off me" multiple times.
As part of the court's order following his guilty plea, Dr. Hummel was required to maintain sobriety, remain employed or enrolled in school, and complete assessments and programs for alcohol and drug use, mental health, domestic violence, and batterer intervention.
Weeks after his guilty plea, the Ralls County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a medical emergency at the Hummel residence, requesting Emergency Medical Services. A deputy and members of the New London Fire Department responded.
"Thirty-six year old Alexandra Hummel was found unresponsive in the residence. She was later pronounced deceased," the sheriff's office stated on June 24. An autopsy was ordered, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Alexandra Hummel worked as a licensed nurse. She would have celebrated her 37th birthday on July 7. Dr. Andrew Hummel is a licensed anesthesiologist whose most recent position was at Hannibal Regional Hospital. His LinkedIn profile lists him as currently self-employed through his own LLC, Northern Ozark Anesthesia Solutions.
