Firefighters in Kansas City, Missouri, rescued a man who became trapped inside a porta-potty's waste tank on Tuesday. The incident occurred around 11:20 a.m. in central Kansas City.
A witness, Eddie Bejarano, recorded a video of the rescue, which has gained significant attention on social media. Bejarano stated he was picking up eight porta-potty units when he noticed one was occupied.
After knocking and urging the occupant to hurry, Bejarano heard noises inside the unit, followed by yelling. The trapped man informed Bejarano that he was unable to get out.
A police officer who happened to be passing by stopped to assist. Upon opening the porta-potty, the officer found the man submerged in the waste.
The officer then contacted the fire department. Firefighters arrived and began rescue operations, which involved cutting into the porta-potty's waste tank with an electric saw to create a larger opening.
During the extraction, the trapped man could be heard saying he could not move his legs. Rescuers issued instructions, and at one point, a firefighter used his foot to push down a section of the cut plastic, leading to a splash of liquid. The firefighters expressed disgust at the situation.
After being freed, the man was hosed down next to a fire engine. The circumstances leading to the man becoming trapped in the waste tank remain unclear. The Kansas City Fire Department has been contacted for comment.
