A Missouri man eluded Stone County Sheriff’s Office deputies by jumping from his moving car and then off a bridge into a river during a high-speed chase last Saturday. The incident concluded hours later when authorities apprehended the suspect, who then assaulted deputies.

The pursuit began when deputies attempted to stop Gavin Thor Lundgren for allegedly driving 75 mph in a 45 mph zone. Lundgren reportedly drove into a parking lot, looped around a building, and then sped away from officers.

The chase continued onto a bridge, where Lundgren abandoned his vehicle, which was still in drive. He then dove headfirst off the bridge into the water below. Dashcam footage captured the moment a deputy can be heard saying, “Contact water patrol, he jumped over the bridge.”

Deputies and local firefighters searched the water for Lundgren. He was eventually located on a nearby shoreline. During his apprehension, Lundgren headbutted three deputies, causing scrapes, lacerations, and facial injuries before being taken into custody.

Lundgren faces charges including aggravated fleeing a stop and third-degree assault, along with two counts of misdemeanor fourth-degree assault. His driver's license was found on the passenger seat of the abandoned car.
