Missouri Killer Taunts Victim's Family With Autopsy Photos During Sentencing

A Missouri man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the 2023 murder of 19-year-old Kobe Dotson, after his disruptive behavior during the sentencing hearing, which included rifling through autopsy photos, angered prosecutors and the victim's family.

Clyde Sanders, 38, was formally sentenced on Monday for the death of Dotson, who was killed on April 25, 2023. During the hearing, as Dotson's family members delivered their victim impact statements, Sanders reportedly looked through autopsy images and made remarks, prompting outrage from the family.

The exchange led to a disturbance in the courtroom. A deputy deployed a taser in an attempt to prevent a female family member from rushing toward Sanders and to maintain order. The St. Louis Sheriff’s Office stated that the taser did not strike anyone.

Sanders' actions caused prosecutors to withdraw their initial recommendation of 23 years for his sentence. They instead pursued a 25-year term. Following a pause for Sanders to consult with his attorney, the judge imposed the 25-year sentence.

After the sentencing, members of the Dotson family were escorted from the courtroom while expressing their grief. They remained outside the courthouse until deputies instructed them to leave.

Sanders had previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action as part of a plea agreement that resulted in the dismissal of nine other charges. The incident occurred when Sanders approached Dotson and three other teenagers, demanding the return of a lost item. As the group attempted to leave by reversing down the street, Sanders began firing at their vehicle.

Dotson's vehicle crashed into a fire hydrant, dislodging its doors. Dotson was ejected and found critically injured on the street. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died. The three other passengers, who were minors at the time, sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.
