Shaun Mackelprang, a deputy attorney general for Missouri, has been found alive in Wyoming nearly a week after he disappeared during a solo hiking trip. He was located on Wednesday morning by search-and-rescue workers in the Wind River mountain range and airlifted from the area.

Mackelprang, 55, had set out to hike the Green River Lakes Trailhead with the objective of reaching Gannett Peak, Wyoming's highest point. According to his brother, Romel Mackelprang, he intended to reach the peak on Friday and return home the following day. His brother stated that Shaun Mackelprang signed a logbook at the mountain peak, confirming he reached his destination.

When found, Mackelprang was dehydrated and disoriented. His brother believes he became lost while descending the mountain and was located near a lake that resembled the area where he had pitched his tent.

The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office announced his recovery. Mackelprang's current condition was not immediately disclosed, and the sheriff's office did not immediately respond to requests for further comment.
