Miranda Lambert Reflects on 'Not Fun' 2015 Divorce from Blake Shelton
The country singer shared that the split fueled her songwriting, leading her to write 75 songs.
Miranda Lambert has offered a rare reflection on her 2015 divorce from Blake Shelton, describing it as a "really not fun time" in her life.
"I got divorced, and that sucks for anyone, especially in the public eye," Lambert said during an appearance on the "And The Writer Is…" podcast on Oct. 27. "Especially on tour, especially in the middle of a very public career."
Lambert, 42, stated that the silver lining to the breakup was her increased productivity in the recording studio. After moving back to Nashville to begin her life as a single woman, she "dove headfirst into songwriting."
"When I moved back in 2015, I gathered up all of my friends and relationships from all of the previous years and just used it," she said. "Used the misery."
Lambert continued, "I used what I was living, and my friends went on that journey with me—friends being songwriters. And I think I wrote 75 songs."
She explained that she grew as a vocalist and songwriter during that period, channeling her "raw emotion" into new music.
Lambert and Shelton announced their divorce on July 20, 2015, after four years of marriage and a decade together. Shelton commented in September 2015 that their divorce occurred rapidly.
"Miranda and I didn't have any kids, and we had a prenuptial agreement, whatever we had. Once we filed for divorce, it was over in, like, I think it was a nine or 10-day waiting period until it's over," Shelton said during an appearance on the "Bobby Bones Show."
Both artists have since remarried. Shelton married Gwen Stefani in July 2021, and Lambert wed Brendan McLoughlin in January 2019. Lambert met McLoughlin, a former police officer, on the set of "Good Morning America."
