Minnesota Man Hailed a Hero for Rescuing Children on School Bus
Ebro Ahmed intervened when the bus driver experienced a medical emergency, preventing a potential tragedy.
A Minnesota man is being recognized for his quick thinking and bravery after he saved nearly 20 children on a school bus when the driver suffered a medical emergency. Ebro Ahmed, 27, described the incident as a matter of duty, telling ABC News, "Also, too, it’s kids we’re talking about, you know. Even if I were to die, it would still be worth it."
The dramatic event was captured on surveillance video outside Ya Bricks Snacks and Tobacco on Monday. Ahmed, who was standing nearby, noticed the school bus moving with its door ajar. Upon looking closer, he saw the driver experiencing what appeared to be a seizure.
Ahmed sprinted to the bus, boarded it, and activated the emergency brake just moments before any harm could occur. He recalled the chaotic scene, noting that some children were screaming while others remained calm. He credited two young girls for assisting him by holding his phone and glasses.
In a surprising detail, Ahmed mentioned that the long-running medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" helped him maintain composure during the crisis. He explained that the show has provided him with useful tips for handling unexpected situations.
Saint Paul Public Schools confirmed the medical emergency and stated that paramedics responded to the scene. No injuries were reported among the students. After transferring to another bus, the children were sent home, and counselors checked in with them the following day.
