Fahima Mahamud, the owner of Future Leaders Early Learning Center in Minneapolis, has pleaded guilty to wire fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States. The admission comes after her daycare was featured in a viral video by YouTuber Nick Shirley highlighting questionable childcare facilities.

Prosecutors stated that between October 2022 and November 2025, Mahamud submitted claims totaling more than $4.6 million from the Child Care Assistance Program. This federal program provides daycare subsidies for low-income families. The claims were allegedly for recipients who did not pay their required co-payments.

Future Leaders Early Learning Center also received over $850,000 between January and July 2021 from Feeding Our Future, a Minnesota-based food program that authorities say defrauded taxpayers of $250 million. Mahamud claimed to serve tens of thousands of meals monthly to children at her center, but court documents indicate she served only a fraction of those claimed meals.

Mahamud closed Future Leaders in February and reportedly attempted to flee the country to London two days later. Her sentencing date has not yet been scheduled. The case is connected to a larger fraud scheme involving Feeding Our Future, for which Aimee Bock, identified as the mastermind, received a 40-year prison sentence in May.
