Investigators were on the scene Thursday in downtown Minneapolis examining the aftermath of a shooting that claimed three lives, including the suspect, and injured five others. The incident occurred Wednesday evening at an apartment building, and law enforcement officers, along with a mobile crime scene unit from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, were present.

Five people were wounded by gunfire, two of whom were Minneapolis police officers. A third officer sustained other injuries. All three officers were hospitalized but are expected to recover, according to interim Police Chief Bill Peterson.

A 911 call reporting shots fired at the building was received shortly after 4:30 p.m. Responding officers arrived within two minutes and discovered victims. Additional gunshots were heard by officers as they moved through the building, leading them to a higher floor where visibility was significantly reduced by a haze, Peterson stated.

One victim died at the scene, and another succumbed to their injuries after being transported to the hospital. The manner of the shooter's death has not yet been detailed.

Authorities have not released specific information about the suspected shooter but indicated they had prior knowledge of the individual. Residents of the building reported recognizing the man with the gun as a belligerent individual known for displaying his weapon. One resident, Julius Bailey, who has lived in the building since June, described the shooter as someone he actively avoided.

Another resident, Chris Miller, also reported hearing rapid gunfire and fleeing the building. Miller stated he believed he knew the perpetrator and had previously reported an individual with a handgun to building management earlier in the week.

Investigators are continuing their work at the apartment complex where the shooting took place.
