A Minion statue, part of a promotional installation at Carney's Train Restaurant in West Hollywood, has been stolen. The incident occurred in broad daylight when an individual drove up to the restaurant, removed the statue from its railing on Sunset Boulevard, and drove away.
Employees reported that the theft happened quickly, leaving a security guard on duty bewildered. The statue, known as Minion Todd, was part of a larger "Minions and Monsters" advertising creation installed by Monster City Studios on June 18. The installation features over 18 Minion statues and an 80-foot-long slime monster draped over the restaurant's roof.
Carney's Train Restaurant, a landmark located near the Sunset Strip, is known for its burgers and chili cheese fries. The "Despicable Me" franchise, to which the Minions belong, released its seventh film on July 1, featuring two new Minion characters, James and Henry, who become silent-film stars. The studio noted that the installation was a significant construction project, designed to avoid damaging the historic 1920s passenger coach that houses the restaurant.
