Firebrand right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying his visa, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed.
Yiannopoulos, 41, a British citizen, was arrested on Thursday, August 27, at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Kenner, Louisiana. According to DHS, Yiannopoulos entered the United States legally on May 14, 2019, through New York City.
An immigration judge issued a final order of removal for Yiannopoulos on July 22, after which he reportedly missed an immigration hearing. DHS stated that he "chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws."
A mugshot released by the agency shows Yiannopoulos appearing disheveled, unshaven, and exhausted with bags under his eyes. He is currently being held in ICE custody in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Yiannopoulos, a former Breitbart News editor, gained prominence for his controversial views and speaking engagements. He previously served as a spokesman for Kanye West.
