White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller asserted Tuesday that the Democratic Party has undergone a fundamental transformation, citing recent primary victories for progressive and socialist candidates as evidence.

"Democrats you grew up with... do not exist anymore at all, not at any level of government," Miller stated during an appearance on "Hannity." He characterized a vote for any Democrat as empowering a party he believes seeks to undermine national security, defense, and the American way of life.

Miller's remarks followed primary election results in New York where candidates endorsed by Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic socialist, secured key victories. These included Darializa Avila Chevalier, Claire Valdez, and Brad Lander. The article notes that candidates like these often advocate for policies such as Medicare-for-All and abolishing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

Expanding Progressive Influence

The trend of progressive candidates winning primaries is not confined to New York, according to Miller. He pointed to other races across the country, including Maine, where progressive Graham Platner won a primary and is set to challenge Republican Sen. Susan Collins in the general election. In Los Angeles, Democratic socialist Nithya Raman will face incumbent Democrat Karen Bass in the mayoral race.

Further examples cited include Texas Democrat James Talarico, who will compete against Republican Ken Paxton in a Senate race, and Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who is seeking the Democratic primary nomination. The winner of the Michigan Democratic primary will then face Republican nominee Mike Rogers.

"Tonight brings really terrifying evidence of just… how far this cancer has spread and is spreading across and throughout the Democrat Party," Miller said. He further claimed that in open Democratic primaries, the "radical left base" is electing candidates he described as "socialist, communist, lunatic, fringe" and that these candidates oppose law enforcement, borders, and traditional American values.

Miller concluded by suggesting that former President Donald Trump is the sole obstacle to what he termed a "tyrannical wave of left-wing insanity."
