A U.S. Army Reserve Battalion Commander was critically injured and his wife killed in a violent attack at their Alabama home, allegedly perpetrated by their 17-year-old son. The incident occurred late Sunday, according to authorities.
Security footage from a neighbor's home captured Lance Baker, 46, running from his house and screaming for help, stating, "I don't want to die." The footage also shows him attempting to find an open door as he was pursued and repeatedly stabbed outside. Neighbors described the attack as lasting up to seven minutes, with Baker's hands leaving bloody prints on nearby houses as he sought assistance.
Capt. Justin Correa of the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Baker was running to houses trying to get help. His wife, Samantha Baker, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene. Lance Baker was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The couple had met while serving in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Investigators stated the altercation began after the parents disciplined their son. The 17-year-old, whose identity has not been released, is facing charges of murder and attempted murder. He is expected to be charged as an adult.
The crime scene encompassed a significant portion of the neighborhood in Belforest, located approximately 17 miles east of Mobile. Samantha Baker was a realtor. Lance Baker is a 26-year veteran serving as Battalion Commander with the 1184th Deployment and Distribution Support Battalion in Mobile.
