NBA forward Miles Bridges has been traded to the Phoenix Suns by the Charlotte Hornets, a move reported Sunday by NBA insider Shams Charania. The trade involves multiple player and draft pick exchanges between the two teams.
Under the terms of the agreement, Bridges will join the Suns, who also receive a 2029 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick. In return, Charlotte acquires Grayson Allen, Royce O'Neale, and a 2033 first-round pick. According to reports, the Suns aim to acquire a starting power forward in the 28-year-old Bridges, whom they have reportedly targeted in the past. The team also anticipates tax savings and an opening on their roster ahead of free agency. Charlotte, meanwhile, gains two experienced role players and a future unprotected first-round pick from Phoenix.
Legal Proceedings
The trade occurs weeks after Bridges was granted a temporary restraining order against his ex-girlfriend and co-parent, Mychelle Johnson. Court documents obtained by The Daily Mail indicate that Johnson is prohibited from coming within 500 feet of Bridges, their four shared children, his current partner, her children, and his home and workplace.
Bridges' legal team reportedly filed for the protective order on April 8, citing "cyberstalking" by Johnson. An order issued by a judge restrains Johnson from "any cyberstalking, impersonation, or electronic harassment directed at [Bridges], [Bridges'] counsel, or any person associated with [Bridges]" until further notice.
Last month, Bridges also sought emergency temporary sole custody of the four children he shares with Johnson. He accused her in a court filing of abandoning the children with a nanny, driving to the Spectrum Center while intoxicated, renting a hotel room nearby, and attempting to tamper with his vehicle in the arena garage while he was playing.
In 2022, Bridges pleaded no contest to a felony domestic violence charge for an incident involving Johnson that occurred in front of their children in June of that year. He received three years of probation as part of his plea agreement. Subsequently, in October 2023, a criminal summons was issued for Bridges, alleging a violation of a protection order related to the 2022 case. Bridges had previously sought a restraining order against Johnson in Los Angeles in 2022, alleging harassment, theft of his dog, and unannounced appearances at his accommodations.
Career Overview
A former standout at Michigan State, Bridges was a first-round NBA draft pick in 2018, initially selected by the Los Angeles Clippers and then traded to Charlotte. Over seven seasons and 501 career games with the Hornets, he averaged 15.9 points and 6.1 rebounds. Bridges is set to earn approximately $22.8 million next season with the Phoenix Suns. He has accumulated over $76 million in career earnings.
