Mike Tomlin Reveals Secret 12-Year Minecraft City Project
The former Steelers coach found a therapeutic escape in building virtual worlds during his high-pressure NFL career.
Mike Tomlin, who stepped away from coaching the Pittsburgh Steelers after decades in the NFL, is preparing to unveil a massive project built over the last twelve years: a city within the popular video game Minecraft. Tomlin shared that the expansive virtual construction served as a therapeutic outlet, allowing him to detach from the pressures of his coaching career.
In a video shared on social media, Tomlin described the game as his "secret obsession" and invited fans to tour the city he has meticulously crafted. The preview offered an aerial view of a detailed urban landscape, complete with a baseball field, streets, and buildings featuring architectural elements. He indicated that a full reveal would be available on his YouTube channel.
Tomlin, now an analyst for "NBC Sunday Night Football," explained that the immersive nature of Minecraft provided a necessary break from the high-stakes environment of professional football. The game allowed him to focus intensely on a present, tangible project, a contrast to the often ambiguous and demanding nature of coaching.
With his NFL coaching duties concluded, Tomlin has more time to dedicate to what he playfully calls "Tomlinburg." The unveiling of his decade-long virtual endeavor highlights an unexpected facet of the former coach's life outside the sport.
