Mike Tomlin, the longtime Pittsburgh Steelers coach now an analyst for NBC, did not hold back his criticism regarding a pivotal overtime fumble in the recent NFL matchup between the New York Giants and the Washington Commanders. The game concluded in a 27-27 tie after the Giants, with an opportunity to attempt a game-winning field goal, fumbled the ball at the Commanders' 24-yard line.

Tomlin described his reaction to the play as "disgusted," emphasizing the value of division wins in the National Football League. "I threw up in my mouth a little bit at the end of the game," Tomlin stated on the broadcast following the contest. He lamented the lost opportunity for the Giants, who he felt had the win within their grasp.

The fumble by running back Cam Skattebo occurred during a drive that aimed to set up a potential game-winning field goal. With eight seconds remaining in overtime, quarterback Jayden Daniels was sacked. In an attempt to stop the clock and allow for a field goal attempt, Daniels scrambled to place the ball at the line of scrimmage. However, the clock expired before the Giants could attempt the 42-yard kick.

This sequence of events appeared to stem from a miscommunication, as Daniels seemingly believed the Commanders had a timeout remaining, which they did not. The quarterback also did not throw the ball away to conserve time.

Commanders coach Dan Quinn was visibly frustrated by the missed opportunity, throwing his headset down in reaction. Both Quinn and Daniels accepted responsibility for the outcome after the game. "We got to stop the clock. We got to know the zone situation. We’ve gotta relay that as an offense," Daniels said, adding that the responsibility ultimately falls on him.

The tie between the Giants and Commanders occurred in Week 5, a week where no NFC East team secured a victory. The Giants currently lead the division with a 3-1-1 record, while the Commanders sit at 1-3-1. The Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys both stand at 2-3 after their respective losses.

The Giants are scheduled to host the New Orleans Saints in Week 6.
