House Speaker Mike Johnson recently posted on X, formerly Twitter, boasting about the legislative output of the 119th Congress, which is controlled by Republicans in both the House and Senate. Johnson shared a video highlighting recently passed legislation and stated in the caption that House Republicans had passed over 70 bills in the previous week alone, bringing the total to more than 900 bills passed by the House during the current Congress. He listed several achievements, including what he described as "the largest middle and working class tax cut in US history" and "closing the border."
Johnson also contrasted the Republican agenda with what he characterized as the Democratic agenda of "grievance politics, bigger government, higher taxes, open borders, and zero security," as he addressed voters ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
However, a Community Note was added to Johnson's post, offering a differing perspective. The note asserted that the 119th Congress has been the least productive in history, with fewer laws enacted. It also claimed that Johnson had canceled 63 scheduled voting days in the House, allowing members an extended recess with no votes scheduled until after the election.
The Community Note referenced multiple sources to support its claims. Johnson had previously stated at the Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas that the 119th Congress was "the most productive Congress in 80 years." Fact-checking website Snopes has since determined this claim to be false. The House was sent into an early recess until after the November midterm elections.
