Mike Evans Carted Off With Rib Injury as 49ers Wide Receiver Depth Thins Further

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans was carted to the locker room with a rib injury during the team's game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The injury occurred on the 49ers' final drive before halftime.

Evans had been listed as questionable for the game with a hip pointer, an injury that had forced him out of the previous week's contest. However, the midsection injury he sustained against the Cardinals appeared to be a separate issue.

He was seen grabbing at his right side and showing visible discomfort as trainers attended to him on the field. Evans was unable to continue and has been ruled out for the remainder of the game. Prior to his departure, Evans had recorded three catches for 34 yards and one touchdown from quarterback Brock Purdy.

This latest injury adds to the 49ers' significant attrition at the wide receiver position. Ricky Pearsall is out for the season after undergoing PCL surgery during training camp. De’Zhaun Stribling is expected to miss until approximately Week 10 due to an ankle injury sustained in Week 1. Demarcus Robinson was placed on injured reserve this week with a high ankle sprain he suffered in the previous game against Miami.

To address the depth issues, the 49ers signed veteran receiver Brandin Cooks as a free agent last week. Cooks is currently on the team's practice squad.

Cornerback Deommodore Lenoir also left the game in the second quarter and was being evaluated for a concussion after being carted to the locker room.
