Miguel Rojas Announces Retirement, Will Remain with Dodgers in Player Development Role

Veteran infielder Miguel Rojas announced his retirement from professional baseball on Thursday, shortly after the Los Angeles Dodgers were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series. The 37-year-old confirmed his decision to teammates and reporters, marking the end of a 13-year MLB career.

"This is it," Rojas told reporters. "I’m moving on with the next chapter in my life. The last four years here changed my life."

Rojas, a native of Venezuela, originally debuted with the Dodgers in 2014 before spending eight seasons with the Miami Marlins. He returned to Los Angeles in a trade before the 2023 season. Despite joining a roster laden with stars, Rojas quickly established himself as a crucial player, known for his steady presence and leadership.

During his second tenure with the Dodgers, Rojas posted a .260 batting average with 22 home runs and 117 RBIs over 446 games. His contributions were particularly significant in the postseason, including a game-tying home run in the ninth inning of Game 7 of the 2025 World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, helping the Dodgers secure their championship.

"I’m just proud of being part of this group," Rojas said. "That we were able to win back-to-back championships."

Despite his impactful contributions, Rojas' career was marked by consistent defensive play rather than individual accolades; he never made an All-Star team and was notably overlooked for Gold Glove awards.

Following his retirement, Rojas is set to remain with the Dodgers organization. He has agreed to transition into a player development role, a move he had expressed interest in when he re-signed with the club as a free agent this past winter.

"I wanna stay here. I wanna wear this uniform or this logo in a different capacity," Rojas stated.

Even after his final game, Rojas remained in his uniform and cleats for some time, expressing the emotional difficulty of removing them. "It’s really hard to take them off right now," he said. "It was really emotional after the game."

Teammate Freddie Freeman acknowledged Rojas' impact on the team. "He built a legacy," Freeman said. "We’ll be talking about Miguel Rojas for a long time."
