Hundreds of migrants have entered the Spanish North African enclave of Ceuta, with many swimming and using inflatable devices to cross from Morocco. Others reportedly entered through a gate in the border fence.
Juan Jesús Vivas, the leader of Ceuta, stated that the influx has overwhelmed the territory's resources and urged the Spanish government to intervene. Spanish media outlets have estimated that between 2,000 and 3,000 individuals entered Ceuta on Thursday, though official figures from the Guardia Civil have not been confirmed.
Ceuta, situated on Morocco's northern coast, has historically been a significant point of arrival for migrants attempting to reach Europe.
