Migrants Disappear After Arriving by Yacht in Cornwall

Authorities have launched an investigation after 18 migrants reportedly disappeared from a quiet Cornish harbour following their arrival by yacht in the early hours of Sunday. Locals at Mylor, near Falmouth, reported seeing the individuals disembark from a yacht and flee into the darkness shortly before 3 a.m. on September 27.

Devon and Cornwall Police stated that officers responded to the report and arrested two Albanian nationals on suspicion of immigration offenses. Immigration Enforcement, a Home Office agency, is now leading the investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard confirmed their assistance to the police in responding to the event. While two individuals were arrested, reports suggest that others left the scene in a van.

This incident follows a series of other migrant arrivals on UK shores without interception. Last Monday, a small boat with at least seven migrants reportedly landed near the Warren nature reserve east of Folkestone. The following day, up to 30 people arrived on Samphire Hoe, located between Dover and Folkestone.

Cabinet minister Lucy Powell acknowledged that the government cannot prevent all such arrivals. These events have occurred amid warnings from the Border Force union that migrant boats are arriving undetected along the entire south coast. Lucy Moreton of the ISU union stated that such undetected landings are "absolutely, definitely happening" and that the lack of comprehensive monitoring means the exact number of arrivals and those lost at sea remains unknown.

Separately, three migrants, including a child, died in the Channel after their dinghy encountered difficulties. French authorities reported rescuing 105 people from the vessel, which had departed from Bleriot Plage near Calais. Despite rescue efforts, a 10-year-old child and two women were confirmed deceased.
