Andrew Cornish, the chief executive of Middlesex County Cricket Club, was dismissed from his position last month following a seven-month investigation into a complaint of 'engaging in unwanted physical contact with a female employee'. The incident reportedly occurred during a work-related night out in November. The club referred the complaint to the Cricket Regulator, an independent body overseeing disciplinary matters in the sport, and Cornish was placed on leave.
During the course of the inquiries, three additional female colleagues came forward with complaints regarding alleged inappropriate comments made by Cornish. He has previously denied any wrongdoing. Middlesex County Cricket Club confirmed Cornish's dismissal in June but provided no further details.
The Cricket Regulator has not confirmed the specifics of ongoing investigations. A report is expected to be published soon. Separately, Middlesex County Cricket Club has been charged with misconduct related to Cornish's alleged behavior and could face a fine if the charge is proven.
The club has experienced a period of turbulence in recent years, including a suspended points deduction and a £150,000 fine in 2023 for financial regulation breaches, as well as a six-figure error concerning pensions following a COVID-19 era funding crisis. A separate misconduct charge against another senior employee in 2024 was not upheld.
