Mick Jagger, 82, recently attended a football match with three of his sons: James, 40, Lucas, 27, and Deveraux, 9. The Rolling Stones frontman was seen in the stands in Miami and later in Atlanta, sharing moments of both celebration and disappointment with his children.
While Jagger has seven children from various relationships, Lucas has emerged as his perceived "golden boy" due to his university education. Jagger, who himself pursued studies at the London School of Economics before a career in music, places a high value on academic achievement. Lucas, the son of Brazilian model Luciana Morad, graduated from New York University in 2024 with a degree in literary arts. Jagger was present at his graduation and has expressed pride in this accomplishment.
Despite his degree, Lucas appears to be pursuing a path in modeling and influencing, recently fronting an eyewear campaign. This contrasts with Jagger's own academic aspirations for his children.
Jagger's eldest son, James, from his marriage to Jerry Hall, attended boarding school but was reportedly less academically inclined. James has since pursued a career in acting, appearing in the series "Vinyl," which was co-created by his father.
Another son, Gabriel, did not attend university but trained as a journalist and worked for The Times newspaper before establishing his own media company. A friend of Jagger's noted that Gabriel, like Lucas, shows an interest in the arts.
Jagger also has four daughters: Karis, 55, with actress Marsha Hunt; Jade, 54, from his marriage to Bianca; and Lizzie, 42, and Georgia May, 34, with Jerry Hall. Karis graduated from Yale University with a degree in history.
In a 2023 interview, Jagger reflected on the challenges of being an older father, noting a more laissez-faire approach with subsequent children. His youngest son, Deveraux, with former ballerina Melanie Hamrick, spends significantly more time with him than his elder children did during their childhoods. Jagger and Hamrick welcomed Deveraux when Jagger was 73.
Football appears to be a unifying interest among Jagger's sons, as neither their mothers nor sisters share this passion, making it a dedicated father-son activity. Jagger himself has been a hands-on father, a departure from the more nomadic lifestyle of his earlier years on tour. He was notably present for Lucas's baby scans and even assisted with homework via Skype.
