Michigan Teen Sisters Killed, Injured in Fatal Crash
One sister died at the scene, while the other remained in critical condition following a single-vehicle accident that also injured three other high school students.
A horror crash in rural Michigan claimed the life of one teenage sister and left her sibling in critical condition, authorities confirmed. Jordyn Bigham, 15, and Jadisson 'Jada' Bigham, 16, were passengers in a vehicle that veered off West R Avenue in Texas Township and struck a tree early Sunday morning. The vehicle subsequently caught fire.
Jordyn was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, an unidentified 16-year-old, also died. Jada, along with two other Mattawan High School students, Liyra Fuller and one other teenager, were transported to a local hospital. Jada remains in stable but critical condition, according to her grandmother, Christina Norris. Another injured student is in stable but critical condition, while the third is described as being in 'very critical condition.'
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office extended condolences to the families and friends of the students, stating, 'Our thoughts are also with the injured students, their loved ones and the students, teachers and staff of Mattawan High School during this difficult time.'
Texas Township Fire Rescue also issued a statement expressing sorrow for the families affected and commending the response of emergency personnel. The cause of the vehicle swerving off the road is under investigation.
Family members described Jordyn and Jada as 'inseparable.' A GoFundMe page established to assist the Bigham family with funeral and medical expenses had raised nearly $70,000 by Tuesday night. A separate fundraiser for Liyra Fuller's recovery had gathered over $10,000.
Community members gathered for a vigil at Mattawan High School on Monday night, and a makeshift memorial of flowers and balloons has been placed at the crash site. The school district superintendent noted the community's supportive response to the tragedy.
