Progressive Michigan Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed described President Trump's marriage to first lady Melania Trump as "rocky" during a television appearance Sunday. El-Sayed's remarks came a day after President Trump shared a social media post comparing a photo of himself and the first lady with a photo of El-Sayed and his wife, Sarah Jukaku.

The president's post, captioned "Two VERY DIFFERENT America's (sic)," drew a retort from El-Sayed on CNN's "State of the Union."

"Actually, Sarah and I like each other," El-Sayed told host Jake Tapper. "I don't know about the first lady and the president, but, from what I have heard, it's a bit of a rocky road."

El-Sayed, who narrowly defeated Rep. Haley Stevens in the Michigan Democratic Senate primary, made the comments in the context of the presidential social media post. The Trumps have been married since 2005 and have one son, Barron, together.
