Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed was recently questioned about his use of the title "physician" despite not holding an active medical license. The scrutiny came from a progressive podcast host during an interview.

During the exchange, the host pressed El-Sayed on whether he believed it was truthful to describe himself as a physician. El-Sayed, who previously worked as a public health doctor and has a medical degree from the University of Michigan, defended his title. He stated that his medical license is inactive but that he has a medical degree and has practiced medicine.

El-Sayed is running in the Democratic primary for the open Michigan Senate seat. He is known for his progressive platform and previously ran for governor of Michigan in 2018.
